Jannell is a team player who loves to problem-solve through sketching and quick mockups, and who thrives in a collaborative environment. She brings nearly 2 decades of professional design experience, a hearty dedication to organizing information (she loves to be the “whiteboard scribe” and/or set up info charts in excel!), and plenty of enthusiasm to dig in, think deeply, and work hard to accomplish shared visions.
design bio
From a childhood spent sketching up dresses for her mom to sew and inventing ways to make special effects with her aunt's video camera, Jannell has had a lifelong mission to create experiences through design.
After obtaining her Master's Degree in Industrial Design, she was delighted to begin creating professionally. At Hunter Fan in Memphis, TN, she discovered a penchant for constraints-- often she found the "basic" fans which had strict cost and material parameters to be the most exciting problem-solving projects. After five years at Hunter, she married and moved to Kentucky, preserving ties with former coworkers, who asked her to consider providing work on a freelance basis.
The next chapter began in her basement office, sending designs and trend research back to Memphis. She picked up other graphics projects, toy and furniture product rendering projects, as well as a long-term signage customer during her freelancing tenure.
In 2016, she contracted with Louisville, KY manufacturer Universal Woods, where she experimented with the form, new applications, and decoration of hard surface sublimation products. Her contract expanded into her joining the team as their first on-staff Industrial Designer, collaborating with Engineering and Marketing to bring new product ideas to life.
Since the end of 2021, she has been pursuing artistic and musical passions- experimenting particularly with creating "crankies" (whimsical moving panorama stories set to music) which combine her love of illustration, music recording, papercutting, and upcycling old packaging.
